After serving the past 17 years as Birdville ISD’s Director of Fine Arts, Danny Detrick has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the school year. Detrick has served as BISD’s Director of Fine Arts since 2009 and has had a profound impact on the department’s success. 

“Since 2009, Mr. Detrick has been the heart and visionary behind BISD’s Fine Arts Department,” said Skip Baskerville, Associate Superintendent for Human Resources, Governance and Support Services. “Through his unwavering dedication and deep belief in the arts, Mr. Detrick helped the Fine Arts Department flourish – expanding opportunities, elevating excellence and inspiring countless students and educators along the way.” 

Detrick began his career as a student teacher at Haltom High School in 1986, and prior to serving as Director of Fine Arts, Detrick was the Choir Director at Birdville High School from 2008-2009. In total, Detrick has served public education for 38 years. 

With Detrick’s support, BISD’s Fine Arts Department has thrived over the past nearly two decades. All programs from visual arts, elementary music, theatre, band, choir and dance have experienced incredible success. One of many amazing accomplishments is that since 2009, the Richland, Birdville and Haltom High School marching bands qualified for the state marching contest a combined 13 times. 

“It has been my honor and privilege to be part of a district that understands, appreciates, and supports the arts as an integral part of the curriculum and a student’s development as a whole person,” Detrick said. “With the help of the Board of Trustees, administrators, and our incredible fine arts teachers, we have consistently provided outstanding art, band, choir, dance, elementary music, and theatre programs to our students and families. I have no doubt Birdville Fine Arts will continue to do so for many years to come.”
